Ukiyo (浮世) is a Japanese word that roughly translates to ‘floating world’.
The past and future often skews the present human experience.
When we are just floating in the middle of nowhere, knowing there is a definite end, nothing else matters except ‘living in the moment’.
The waves in Ukiyo signifies ‘going with the flow’. The blue color of the waves also represents the waves of sadness that could often sink us in life.
The wings in Ukiyo symbolizes ‘Hope’ and the ‘Desire’ to rise above the waves to fly towards your dreams.
This theme was inspired from the lives of HIV affected people in a effort to spread awareness about the same.
This year’s Maatram is a tribute to all brave warriors who fight the disease and fly high on hope.
